Alabama-born actor is surprised by ‘heartthrob’ label after ‘White Lotus’ fame
Birmingham-born actor Walton Goggins is everywhere these days. And by “everywhere,” we mean on three concurrent, popular TV shows: “Fallout,” “The Righteous Gemstones” and “The White Lotus.” He’s also currently voicing Cecil in the animated show “Invincible.”
In addition to all that, Goggins has been a favorite of talk show hosts — Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers — and gracing magazine covers, including Cultured’s Cult100 issue where he posed in a yellow Speedo.
And then there’s one more role: “Heartthrob.” The cover article in Cultured features Goggins talking with Jonathan Nolan — brother to Christopher and Goggins’ director in “Fallout” — under the headline: “How ‘White Lotus’ Star Walton Goggins Became Hollywood’s Most Unexpected Heartthrob.”
Although the article doesn’t really address the “how,” it does give examples of how people are going crazy for the 5-foot-10, slender-but-ripped Goggins, who is known for playing quirky characters.
Nolan writes: “One need only look to the headlines: ‘His Hair Is Greasy. His Eyes Are Bulging. I Think I’m in Love,’ or ‘Thank You God for All This Goggins.’”
Goggins expresses some surprise about the uproar over his appearance, reminding Nolan that his character in “Fallout,” the Ghoul, doesn’t even have a nose.
When Nolan says his friend and collaborator Goggins is “having a moment,” Goggins responds: “It’s interesting to hear that term – ‘you’re having a moment.’ What does that really mean? I feel like I’ve had so many moments in my life.”
And the moments show no signs of stopping. The second season of “Fallout” will debut on Amazon Prime Video in December and a third season has already been approved, according to an article on Amazon’s website.
Although “The Righteous Gemstones” aired its final episode earlier this month, all four seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
As for “The White Lotus,” a fourth season has been approved on HBO. Read the full Cultured interview here.
