Alabama bill would make it illegal to mandate microchipping employees
A bill pre-filed in the Alabama Legislature would make it illegal for an employer to require its employees to be implanted with a microchip or “permanent identification marker.”
House Bill 4 was filed last month.
Rep. Anthony Daniels (D-District 52), Rep. Prince Chestnut (D-District 67) and Rep. Kelvin Lawrence (D-District 69) are backing the bill, which would include the state, insurers and bail bondsmen in the prohibition.
Violation would constitute a Class D felony. The bill would not prohibit people from voluntarily being implanted with microchips.
While employers currently don’t require implanted microchips, the legislation has been catching support in several states due to potential privacy concerns and religious objections.
Employers are banned from requiring device implants in Arkansas, California, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wisconsin, according to Bloomberg Law data. Wyoming is currently debating a similar bill.
