Alabama basketball’s Nick Pringle enters transfer portal: Reports

Alabama basketball forward Nick Pringle is reportedly hitting the transfer portal after helping the Crimson Tide to its first Final Four in program history. Pringle becomes the fourth UA player to enter the portal since the 2023-24 season ended.

The portal remains open for undergraduate entry through May 1. The news of Pringle’s entry was first reported by Pete Nakos of On3.

The Tide was Pringle’s third stop throughout his college basketball career. He started out at Wofford as a freshman, before heading to Dodge City Community College in Kansas.

After a year there, he was one of the top-ranked portal prospects. The 6-foot-10, 230-pound South Carolina native joined Alabama before the 2022-23 season.

This past season was an inconsistent one for Pringle. He was twice suspended for conduct detrimental toward the team, but head coach Nate Oats and his teammates made clear how important his leadership was down the stretch and in the NCAA Tournament.

“Sometimes your strengths can be a weakness at the same time,” Pringle said before UA’s Elite Eight matchup with Clemson. “Just finding that level ground and applying that energy towards my teammates and just coming out and doing the best I can possible so I can follow through with the rest of the team.”

Pringle battled through a foot injury in the postseason. He was obviously limping at times, especially in Alabama’s Sweet Sixteen upset of North Carolina, but carried on, picking up huge minutes against UNC’s Armando Bacot.

“We don’t win this game without Nick,” Alabama guard Mark Sears said afterward. “He was battling with Bacot, who is one of the best bigs in the country. They were going at it. Down the stretch when we was getting stops he was a very big part of that.

Pringle averaged 6.1 points per game and 5.1 rebounds for the Crimson Tide. He joins Davin Cosby, Rylan Griffen, Sam Walters and Kris Parker as scholarship players in the portal from Alabama, with walk-on Max Scharnowski also entering.
