Alabama basketball star’s status uncertain for Florida game
Alabama men’s basketball forward Grant Nelson was added to the injury report Tuesday.
The SEC availability report designated him as questionable.
Nelson has dealt with injuries at times this season. That included a shin bruise during the Mississippi State game a week ago.
“Grant’s got to get healthier,” Alabama coach Nate Oats said before the Tennessee game this past Saturday. “I think we’re starting to see him get healthier, get more explosive, get downhill to the rim.”
Oats did not discuss Nelson’s status specifically at all during his Tuesday press conference previewing Florida, but that “our four seniors should all be good to go.”
Oats noted that Derrion Reid would miss another game and remains week-to-week. The availability report reflected that as Reid was designated “out.”
The No. 7 Crimson Tide (23-6, 12-4 SEC) will face No. 5 Florida on Wednesday (6 p.m., ESPN 2) at Coleman Coliseum. Win that, and the Crimson Tide will lock up a double bye in the SEC Tournament.
“I think more of it’s Grant being healthy to where he can get in the gym and put reps up and get his shot a little more comfortable,” Oats said leading into the Tennessee game.
Nelson is a starter for Alabama, averaging 11.8 points, eight rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game this season. He’s the third-leading scorer on the team behind Mark Sears and Aden Holloway.
