About 48 hours after entering the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday, former Alabama guard Nimari Burnett has a new home.

Burnett told On3 Sports on Thursday that he has committed to transfer to Michigan.

“Michigan is the best place for me to thrive, offensively and defensively,” Burnett said to On3. “I’ve known coach Juwan Howard for a long time now, ever since I was a kid. I’ve always had a good relationship with him and I just felt it was the best place for me to be.”

Burnett had discussed his decision to transfer Wednesday during an appearance on The Next Round.

“I’m definitely open to all options,” he said. “Taking a [second] to just gather everything, gather all the information I need to make a great decision for myself. Just looking forward to that and looking forward to that process, and also being smart with it, doing some research and studying who are the options that I have.”

Burnett, who previously transferred from Texas Tech to Alabama in 2021, would need to be a graduate transfer or receive a waiver to play immediately at Michigan. He said Wednesday he anticipates graduating.

“I’ve collected enough credit — we’ll see how those credits transfer to the next place I go to,” he said. “Kind of getting that done over the summer and going from there.”

Burnett has been the only player since Alabama’s Sweet 16 loss Friday to San Diego State to enter the portal. It has reportedly contacted several players in the portal and has received a commitment from Wichita State’s Jaykwon Walton to transfer into the program.
