2025 March Madness championship odds: Alabama among favorites following first Final Four appearance
Alabama (25-12) reached its first-ever Final Four in 2024 before succumbing to eventual-champion Connecticut, 86-72, in the national semifinals.
It was a banner season for the Crimson Tide, which led the nation in scoring with an average of 90.1 points per outing.
Oddsmakers are now expecting another big year for coach Nate Oats’ crew next season as the Crimson Tide opened among the top six 2025 national title favorites at four of the leading online sportsbooks.
As of April 10, FanDuel Sportsbook had Alabama tied for the fourth-best championship odds at +1500, trailing only Duke (+1100), Kansas (+1200) and UConn (+1300).
Meanwhile, Bama’s best 2025 title odds among could be found at Caesars Sportsbook, where it was tied for sixth at +2200.
The odds are extremely fluid, though, given the NCAA’s hyperactive transfer portal, players having until April 27 to declare for the NBA Draft and seniors still eligible for an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-impacted 2020 and 2021 seasons.
The latter will certainly affect Alabama’s 2024-25 prospects as three starters — guard Mark Sears and forwards Grant Nelson and Nick Pringle — all have a COVID eligibility year remaining.
Sears’ return would be particularly massive for the Tide as he finished second in the SEC in both scoring (21.5 points per game) and 3-point shooting accuracy (43.6 percent).
Regardless, Oats has a top-10 recruiting class on the way, including 6-foot-7 forward Derrion Reid, a 2024 McDonald’s All-American and the nation’s eighth-ranked recruit, according to ESPN.
2025 March Madness championship odds: Auburn aiming higher following recent success
Auburn finished 27-8 overall and second in the SEC regular season and, like Alabama, earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tourney.
Coach Bruce Pearl’s Tigers, however, were upended by 13th-seeded Yale in the first round, cutting short Auburn’s fifth appearance in the last six Big Dances.
That stretch includes Auburn’s one and only Final Four appearance in 2019 — Pearl’s fourth season with the program.
For 2024-25, Auburn has the 11th-highest championship odds at several sportsbooks, including +2500 at DraftKings.
The best odds on the Tigers as of April 10 could be found at FanDuel (+4000).
Like many contenders, much will depend on what transpires over the offseason.
Junior Johni Broome, is a borderline NBA prospect after leading Auburn in scoring (16.5) and rebounding (8.5) as a 6-10 forward.
Three key perimeter players — Denver Jones, Chad Baker-Mazara and Aden Holloway — are projected to return, and they’ll be joined by guard/prize recruit Tahaad Pettiford.
Pearl’s frontcourt will need some refurbishing, though, especially if Broome doesn’t return for his senior campaign.
