Alabama adds Lou Groza winner Graham Nicholson through transfer portal
Alabama football landed a transfer portal commitment at a position of need Sunday. Kicker Graham Nicholson, previously from Miami of Ohio, announced he’ll be joining the Crimson Tide.
Nicholson announced the news on his Instagram account.
“Let’s get to work,” he said in the post.
Alabama lost Will Reichard to graduation after the 2023 season. The loss was a big one, as Reichard was the program’s all-time scoring leader.
The Crimson Tide had been holding a competition for the job between Conor Talty, Reid Schuback and Upton Bellanfant. Reed Harradine had also been involved, before announcing his own transfer portal entry.
Instead of that uncertain route, Alabama adds a proven commodity. Nicholson won the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation’s top kicker, for his 2023 performance.
He was the first player from the Mid-American Conference to win the award. He made 26 of his 27 field goals for the RedHawks, and went 35-of-36 on extra points.
Nicholson’s longest field goal last season was 52 yards. He earned a plethora of first-team all-American honors after the 2023 campaign, including the Associated Press, Spring News, AFCA and Walter Camp.
He’ll have one season of eligibility in Tuscaloosa.
