Alabama AD: Brandon Miller to play Wednesday against South Carolina

Brandon Miller will play tonight.

The Alabama star freshman was confirmed to be available and in uniform for Wednesday night’s game by Crimson Tide athletic director Greg Byrne on a podcast.

“He is in South Carolina with our team. He went through walk-through today and we expect him to play this evening,” Byrne said on the college gameday podcast played on the Paul Finebaum show.

Miller and another Tide freshman, Jaden Bradley, were named in police testimony on Tuesday in the capital murder trial of Jamea Jonae Harris. Miller was said to have brought the gun to former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles. Miles and his friend Michael Davis were charged and are being held without bond.

Miller’s involvement was initially classified as “wrong spot at the wrong time” per Alabama head coach Nate Oats, which he later clarified. But new details showed Miller’s involvement, which included bringing the weapon after receiving a task for Miles asking for it, per police testimony. A statement released by Miller’s attorney stated Miller “never touched the gun” and fully cooperated with investigators.

“We found out some new facts yesterday,” Byrne continued. “We found out some new facts today. Here’s what we know: Brandon was not there for the verbal altercation. Brandon was already on his way to pick up Darius when Darius texted him. Brandon never left his vehicle and was not involved in the collection of the weapon. The shooting occurred just seconds after Brandon arrived.

“Yesterday we began to hear some new things from the hearing and Coach Oats had just come out of practice and did not have the information from the hearing when he was talking with the media directly after practice. He did not handle that in a way that he should have. We’ve addressed that with him. With that, Coach Oats only has so much information as well. Only law enforcement knows all the facts of the situation. The rest of us are still learning things.

Nate Oats panned for response to Alabama star’s involvement in murder case

“Given the gravity of the situation and out of respect for the judicial process, I’d urge everyone to defer to the facts provided by law enforcement rather than relying on social media or other snippets of information that lack content to inform conclusions.”

Byrne didn’t mention Bradley, who was at the scene as well but cleared of legal wrongdoing, in the clip shown on the broadcast. Tipoff for the No. 2 Tide against South Carolina is set for 8 p.m.
