AL.com’s new audience team is expanding, hiring

At AL.com, our newly formed audience team is committed to creating connections within the communities we cover.

Readers are finding and interacting with AL.com’s journalism in more places than ever before, and we recently formed the audience team to better connect with readers where they are. The team is focused on developing and deepening relationships with audiences across AL.com’s platforms – our website and newsletter readers, social media followers, video viewers, podcast listeners and more. To better serve those audiences, we’re expanding and adding three key positions to the team.

Katie Brumbeloe joined AL.com in June as Director of Audience to lead the audience team. Brumbeloe is a graduate of Auburn University and most recently worked as the digital coach for The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, helping their newsroom learn and flex digital skills to help their journalism reach more people online. Before joining The Gazette, she worked for Gannett for more than a decade, which included roles at The Press-Citizen in Iowa City and The Tennessean in Nashville.

Brumbeloe leads a team of five producers now, and we’re hiring for three additional positions:

Senior video producer: The person in this leadership role will help set a new strategy to reach more Alabamians through engaging, short-form video. This includes programming our social media accounts, which have more than 3 million followers. This position can be based anywhere in Alabama.

Newsletter strategist: This is a new position in our newsroom. We’re looking for someone to develop and lead the launch of new email products, while adapting and improving current newsletters.

Audience producer: This role is focused on managing and developing content for our social accounts, primarily Twitter and Facebook.

If one of these roles isn’t an exact fit but you’re interested in this work, don’t hesitate to reach out by emailing me at [email protected].

Elizabeth Hoekenga Whitmire is the Vice President of Audience for Alabama Media Group.
