AL.comâs SEC football players of the week for Week 9

Here are AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 9 of the 2023 season:

Offense

Payton Thorne, QB, Auburn — Thorne led Auburn to arguably its best offensive performance of the season, completing 20 of 26 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-14 victory over Mississippi State. The junior from Naperville, Ill., also ran for 38 yards on eight carries.

Defense

Edgerrin Cooper, OLB, Texas A&M — Cooper helped the Aggies terrorize South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler in a 30-17 victory. The junior from Covington, La., totaled seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a four quarterback hurries.

Special teams

Charles Campbell, K, Tennessee — Campbell was 4-for-4 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in a 33-27 victory at Kentucky. The senior from Jackson, Tenn., was good on kicks of 44, 49, 34 and 35 yards, and accounted for 15 of his team’s points.
