Here are AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 5 of the 2023 season:
Offense
Ray Davis, RB, Kentucky — Davis, a senior from San Francisco, ran for 280 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and also caught a TD pass in a 33-14 win over Florida. Davis scored on runs of 75, 3 and 2 yards and on a 9-yard reception.
Defense
Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama — Campbell, a sophomore from Timber Creek, N.J., totaled 14 tackles, a tackle for loss, a half-sack and an interception in a 40-17 victory at Mississippi State. Campbell helped the Crimson Tide hold the Bulldogs to just 107 passing yards and 261 yards overall.
Special teams
Ainias Smith, PR, Texas A&M — Smith, a senior from Missouri City, Texas, totaled three returns for 131 yards — including an 82-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter — in a 34-22 win over Arkansas. Smith also recorded a team-best four receptions for 71 yards on offense.
