AL.comâs SEC football players of the week for Week 2
Here are AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 2 of the 2023 season:
Offense
Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina — Rattler was nearly perfect in a 47-21 victory over Furman, completing 25 of 27 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions despite playing only three quarters. He also ran for a 1-yard touchdown as the Gamecocks improved to 1-1.
Defense
Jett Johnson, LB, Mississippi State — Johnson totaled 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and two interceptions in a 31-24 overtime win over Arizona. His second interception came in MSU territory in the fourth quarter and helped the Bulldogs (2-0) force overtime.
Special teams
Caden Davis, PK, Ole Miss — Davis enjoyed a banner day for the Rebels in a 37-20 win at Tulane, connecting on field goals of 37, 27 and 56 yards, making all four extra points and having six of his eight kickoff go for touchbacks. The 56-yard field goal gave Ole Miss (2-0) a 10-point lead in the final two minutes.
