AL.com Top 25: Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan all have business-like week

This past week was a TCB week in college football.

TCB of course meaning, ‘Taking care of business’ and all of the top contenders for the playoff stayed the course and do anything foolish. OK, maybe Penn State but that’s an unserious outfit operating out of State College.

However, with schools like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Washington and a few others, wins over the next few weeks set the stage for season-defining clashes later this month and in December.

Alabama vs. Georgia in the SEC championship game, a potential Oregon-Washington rematch, and Michigan looking to win three-straight over Ohio State all feel like the anticipation of a big-budget blockbuster.

Two and three weeks down the road from those games and possible matchups are too easy to not ignore. Sorry, but not sorry for jumping aboard the hype machine.

As for now, let’s see how the AL.com Top 25 looks this week?

No. 25 Kansas (7-3): So, the Big 12 title is all but gone however there is still hope for a 10-win season.

No. 24. Fresno State (8-2): It was late out west, but San Jose State’s beatdown of Fresno State may have locked up the G5 bid in the New Year’s Six for someone NOT named Fresno State.

No. 23 Notre Dame (7-3): The Irish had the week off, but now things turn to focusing on a potential 10-win season.

No. 22 Utah (7-3): Utah had an opportunity to throw a wrench into the college football playoff race on Saturday but failed in their upset bid of Washington.

No. 21 Arizona (7-3): Arizona may be the hottest team in America that nobody is talking about. Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch deserves National Coach of the Year consideration.

No. 20 Iowa (8-2): After EVERYTHING Iowa has been through this season, they’re most likely headed to a New Year’s Day bowl.

No. 19 Kansas State (7-3): We may be headed towards a Big 12 title game with Kansas State vs. Texas. Yes, I would like to see that.

No. 18 Tennessee (7-3): Saturday’s meltdown at Missouri was shocking. So much to the point this observer feels less inclined to put an upset label for them in this week’s game vs. Georgia.

No. 17 Louisville (9-1): The Cardinals didn’t lock up a spot in the ACC Championship, but they are close…very close.

No. 16 Tulane (9-1): Thanks to a complete meltdown by Air Force and Fresno State (along with James Madison not being eligible for a bowl), Tulane may have just clinched a NY6 spot for the second-straight season.

No. 15 Ole Miss (8-2): No shame in what happened on Saturday. Georgia is just really, really, REALLY good.

No. 14 Penn State (8-2): The best chance for Penn State to be a contender in the Big Ten is to have Michigan and Ohio State leave the conference.

No. 13 James Madison (10-0): Put the Dukes in a bowl game.

No. 12 Missouri (8-2): Who had Missouri playing in a New Year’s Day Bowl game? Or a New Year’s Six bowl game? That’s what I thought.

No. 11 LSU (8-2): Jayden Daniels gained a few Heisman votes following last night’s performance vs. Florida.

No. 10 Oklahoma (8-2): At 8-2, Oklahoma might be one of the most confusing teams I’ve seen in a while.

No. 9 Oregon State (8-2): The next two weeks coming up are perhaps the most important two weeks for the Oregon State football program in school history, with games vs. Washington and Oregon.

No. 8 Alabama (9-1): Don’t expect to see Alabama in the No. 8 spot too much longer.

No. 7 Oregon (9-1): Is Bo Nix your Heisman winner right now? Very well could be.

No. 6 Texas (9-1): Highest ranked one-loss team, but are they the best one-loss team at this point? Probably not.

No. 5 Ohio State (10-0): When do they play Michigan? Two weeks? OK, call me then.

No. 4 Washington (10-0): Undefeated, which is great! That defense? Not so great.

No. 3 Florida State (10-0): If not for Georgia, they might be the most consistent of the undefeated teams right now.

No. 2 Michigan (10-0): Dramatics and tears aside, it was nice to see Michigan actually face a challenge this past Saturday.

No. 1 Georgia (10-0): Let’s start the countdown to the 2023 SEC Championship game, shall we?
