AL.com announces new sports editor
AL.com is pleased to announce it has hired Andrew Hammond as its next managing producer for sports. Hammond’s focus will be on coordinating the day-to-day work of the Alabama and Auburn beats, as well as everything else that comes with running a digital sports operation.
Hammond joined AL.com last month after working at the Detroit Free Press where he was an assistant sports editor since 2021. Andrew also worked as a sports reporter with several stops including the Associated Press and the Tacoma News Tribune. Hammond is from Kansas and attended the University of Kansas and Kansas State. Hammond will be based in Birmingham.
John Talty will continue to be a senior managing producer for AL.com and will work directly with a team of reporters to enhance our sports journalism to best serve our audience through stories offering unique perspective and sourcing. This type of work has won national acclaim and recognition.
Talty also will oversee projects such as podcasts and documentaries, as well as AL.com’s strategy on newsletters as well as other emerging ways to reach new audiences.
Wes Sinor was recently promoted to managing producer of sports video and sports social media. Sinor’s team is focused on providing video and social content around Alabama and Auburn sports.
Sinor has been recognized nationally for his work in video, particularly his production of Road to the Pros — an annual series that follows Alabama and Auburn football players on their journey to the NFL. Sinor has worn many different hats in the sports department starting as a high school/recruiting reporter and working his way up to cover Auburn athletics before becoming a video producer.
