AJ McCarron reveals one Alabama play he wasn’t in on that ended in disaster

AJ McCarron did it all as the quarterback at Alabama.

The quarterback compiled a 36-4 record, three national championships – two as a starter – and finished with more than 9,019 passing yards and 77 touchdowns.

All of that you know.

Did you know he was a four-year starter as the Tide’s holder on field goals in extra points? We only bring this up because he mentioned it recently in an appearance on the Southern Saturday podcast.

By his account, it wasn’t exactly something he was excited about. However, during the discussion, McCarron revealed a fact that might surprise you.

“The one field goal – I don’t know if people realize this – I didn’t hold for (in my career) is the Kick 6,” he said. “The only field goal I never held for.”

That’s not to say necessarily that things would have ended differently on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Chris Davis would have just as easily returned the kick 100+ yards for the game winner. Then again, Alabama fans, it wouldn’t have been any worse had the normal holder been in the game. McCarron didn’t go into details as to why he wasn’t in the game.
