AJ McCarron applauds Brent Musburger for viral Katherine Webb moment: ‘His eyes worked pretty well’

Brent Musburger, for better or for worse, will always be connected to Alabama football thanks to his 2013 viral comments about AJ McCarron’s then-girlfriend Katherine Webb.

McCarron, who has now been married to Webb since 2014, has no ill-will to the former ABC broadcaster.

“I didn’t see — or both of us — didn’t see anything wrong with it,” McCarron told “The Next Round” last week at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am in Birmingham. “Hell, I thought for his age, his eyes worked pretty well.

“I thought it was pretty good. It helped me pay for stuff, because she got some deals off it. I kind of benefitted off of it a little bit before NIL, I guess.”

For those that need a refresher. During the BCS national championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame in January of 2013, Musburger, who was offering play-by-play commented on Webb when she was shown during the broadcast.

“Wow, I’m telling you, you quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women,” Musburger said at the time. “What a beautiful woman. Whoa! If you’re a youngster at Alabama, start getting the football out and throwing it around the back yard with Pop.”

McCarron nor Webb ever felt the need for an apology, despite Musburger and ESPN doing so.

“We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback met that test,” an ESPN apology read. “However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.”

Webb defended Musburger inan interview with AL.com earlier today. “He was complimentary, not creepy,’’ Webb said. “I think it’s unfair that people are giving him a hard time.”
