AISA 10-time champion Bobby Carr expected to lead Carver-Montgomery

Bobby Carr, a legend in the Alabama Independent School Association, apparently will have his shot as a head coach in the AHSAA this season.

Carr, who spent 2023 as offensive coordinator at Elberta High, is expected to take over the football program at Carver-Montgomery, sources told AL.com this week. Carr will have to be officially approved by the Montgomery Public School Board at its meeting next month.

He did not immediately return a phone call or text message on Thursday.

Carr has won 250 games and 10 state titles in 25 years as a head coach in Alabama. He went 40-16 in five years at New Life, 162-25 in 15 years at Edgewood and 48-11 in five years at Autauga Academy.

He won seven AISA state championships at Edgewood, including six in a row at the end of his tenure there, and added three more as head coach at Autauga Academy. He won a fourth championship at Autauga as OC before taking over as head coach.

After leaving Autauga Academy, Carr spent one year as head coach at Presbyterian Christian School in Mississippi before joining Nate McDaniel’s staff at Elberta for a season.

He replaces Marcus Gardner at Carver. Gardner went 20-12 in three seasons, including 7-4 in 2023. The Wolverines lost 25-0 to Briarwood Christian in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Carver will move up to Class 7A in the fall as the school merges with long-time rival Sidney Lanier.

Scottsboro has hired Tyler Vann as its new football coach. Vann replaces Cris Bell, who stepped down after three years. Jason Bowen of The Jackson County Sentinel first reported the news. Vann spent the last three seasons at Sylvania where he went 28-10 with an appearance in the 2022 3A semifinals and the 2023 quarterfinals.
