Wednesday’s first day of AHSAA Super Regional volleyball action featured four classes with 32 teams winning spots in next week’s Elite Eight state championship tournament.

Class 6A, Class 5A, Class 3A and Class 2A each played two rounds in the best-of-5 match format with four teams from each class in two regionals – South in Montgomery and North in Huntsville – assured of a spot in the Elite Eight. Semifinal, final and consolation play continues on Thursday to determine seeding for the state tournament.

Class 7A, Class 4A and Class 1A begin play on Thursday. With four teams in each regional, Class 7A teams need only win first round matches to advance while the other two classes will play two rounds to advance.

In Class 6A North action, Fort Payne, Hazel Green, Mountain Brook and Oxford each won to the semifinal round while Saraland, Spanish Fort, defending champion Bayside Academy and McAdory advanced in South play.

Class 5A Brewer, Alexandria, Arab and Lawrence County advanced in North play and Gulf Shores, Sylacauga, Montgomery Academy and Rehobeth won to South semifinal action.

Class 3A Glencoe, Geraldine, Plainview and Westbrook Christian won in North play and Mobile Christian, Walter Wellborn, defending champion Prattville Christian and St. Luke’s are still playing in the South regional.

Class 2A Sand Rock, defending champion Donoho, Pleasant Valley and Lexington won to the North semifinal while Bayshore Christian, G.W. Long, Wicksburg and Washington County advanced to South semifinal play.
