AHSAA softball postseason set to begin with area tournaments across the state
The Alabama high school softball postseason is here.
Area tournaments across the state are set to begin this Friday and will run through next Tuesday.
Teams have been seeded based on regular-season results, with the No. 1-seeded team hosting the double-elimination tournaments at their home fields.
The winners and runner-ups in the 16 areas in Class 1A-6A and the eight areas in Class 7A will advance to designated regional locations; those will be played May 5-8 in Gulf Shores, Montgomery, Albertville and Florence.
The state tournament in Oxford at Choccolocco Park will begin May 12.
The Class 6A, Area 2 area tournament at Spanish Fort will begin on Friday and will feature three of the top six teams in Class 6A, according to the final rankings by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Those set to play in Spanish Fort include the top-ranked Toros (No. 1 seed), No. 6 Baldwin County (second seed), No. 2 Gulf Shores (third seed) and McGill-Toolen (fourth seed).
Class 4A No. 1 Orange Beach, also ranked third in the nation according to the most recent MaxPreps rankings, will host the Area 1 tournament on Monday with No. 8 Satsuma and St. Michael Catholic in the mix.
Class 7A No. 1 and national No. 15-ranked Thompson will host the Class 7A, Area 5 tournament on Friday and Saturday and includes No. 5 Tuscaloosa County, Prattville and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.
Curry, which ranked No. 2 in Class 4A and No. 18 in the nation, will host the 4A, Area 10 tournament that begins Monday and will include Fayette County, Hamilton and Haleyville.
