Top-ranked Oak Mountain beat No. 7 Hoover 3-1 on the road on Friday to advance to the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 7A state semifinals in Huntsville next week.

The Eagles led 1-0 at the half on a goal from Caleb Smith. In the second half, Nate Joiner scored from an Om Shrestha assist to push the lead to 2-0.

Hoover’s Henry Patterson cut the lead in half with a goal, but Shrestha got Oak Mountain’s final goal off an assist by Gene Capocci assist.

Oak Mountain improved to 22-2-2 on the year. Hoover finishes the season at 12-8-3.

Semifinals for Class 1A/3A, 4A and 5A for both boys and girls are scheduled for Friday with finals set for Saturday. The boys and girls Class 6A and 7A semifinals are Thursday with the finals set for Saturday.
