AHSAA soccer poll: Post-championship final rankings provide major shakeups

The Alabama High School Athletic Association soccer playoffs provided on-the-field clarity of the top teams in the state and major shakeups to the final AHSAA soccer coaches polls released on Wednesday.

The Oak Mountain boys team held on to its MaxPreps No. 1 national ranking, but Montgomery Academy stunned the Eagles to win the Class 7A state championship and claim the top spot in the AHSAA boys Super Poll – the ranking of the top 10 teams regardless of ranking – and in the 7A poll.

Montgomery Academy beat Oak Mountain 2-1 in the rain on Saturday to hand the team its first loss in 31 games this season and end a 60-game unbeaten streak and 49-game winning streak.

The final AHSAA polls, naturally, have all of the state champions ranked first. The coaches did not agree that each runner-up should be ranked No. 2, however.
