Marbury and Stanhope Elmore captured the AHSAA South Bowling Regional titles and American Christian beat defending state champion Sparkman for the crown. East Limestone also claimed a North Bowling Regional title.

The top four teams from each regional advances to the state tournament on Jan. 26-27 at The Alley in Gadsden.

The South tournament is being held at Spanish Fort’s Eastern Shore Lanes while the North Regional is at Tuscaloosa’s Shindig Family Entertainment Center. The boys’ regional championship tournaments got underway early Friday afternoon.

American Christian beat Sparkman 4-2 to win the 6A/7A title and East Limestone edged Southside-Gadsden 4-3 to claim the 1A/5A North crown.

Marbury took the 1A/5A South title, beating Beauregard 4-2 in the Baker format best-of-seven duals competition. Marbury totaled 851 pins in the finals, and Beauregard had 743.

Stanhope Elmore downed Thompson 4-1 in the 6A/7A finals. The Mustangs had a combined pin total of 988 and the Warriors had 842.

At Tuscaloosa, East Limestone lost the pins battle to Southside 1,137 to 1,051, but won four games in the best-of-seven series.

In the 6A/7A finals, Sparkman lost two close games to American Christian, last year’s 1A/5A state champs playing in the larger division for the first time. The Senators won the pin total 861-846.
