Afternoon gunfire in Bessemer neighborhood leaves 1 dead

Gunfire rang out in a Bessemer neighborhood Saturday afternoon, leaving one person dead.

The shooting happened about 1 p.m. outside a home in the 300 block of Norwood Avenue.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said officers arrived at the location to find the victim dead. His name has not yet been released.

The investigation is in its early stages and no other details have been released.

The shooting is the city’s second homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been nine homicides including the two in Bessemer.
