Adopt a furry friend for just $25 at Greater Birmingham Humane Society

If you are in search of a furry friend, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society is holding an “Empty the Shelter” event where adoption fees are only $25 through May 15.

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has promoted the humane treatment of animals through education, advocacy and services since 1883. Through a partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society offsets adoption fees and discounts them. The event is held to help dogs and cats in need find permanent, loving homes.

“Especially right now, shelters across the country are full. Adoptions are down,” Stephanie Salvago, Greater Birmingham Humane Society director of development and marketing, told CBS 42. “It just allows us to cut down any kind of barrier there may be as far as adoption costs. The family can get their little best friend.”

All Greater Birmingham Humane Society locations are participating in the Empty the Shelter event, including Jasper and Walker County.

There are plenty of pets to choose from and all available animals can be viewed by location on the Greater Birmingham Humane Society website. Adoption applications are also available on the website.

If you have questions about the animals, call the Greater Birmingham Humane Society main line at 205-942-1211 and ask to speak with the adoption staff.

“Having a pet is such a wonderful experience. It teaches responsibility. It shows love. It’s just the best thing in the entire world. Being able to come in and bring a pet home is just extremely special,” Salvago told CBS 42.
