Adam Sandler reacts to death of Carl Weathers, ‘Happy Gilmore’ co-star

Adam Sandler reacted Friday to news that his ”Happy Gilmore” co-star Carl Weathers died Thursday.

“A true great man,” Sandler posted on Instagram. “Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always.

Sandler and Weathers worked together on the 1996 golf comedy.

“Smart as hell,” Sandler continued. “Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him.

“Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend.”

Julie Bowen, who starred with the two in “Happy Gilmore” also took to social media to pay tribute to her co-star.

“Dearest Carl, you’ll always be my Chubbs,” she wrote. “What a glorious spirit you had. Thanks for making me smile. I hope they golf wherever you are.”

On Friday, Weathers’ family announced that the actor and former NFL player died peacefully on Thursday.

The former NFL linebacker who became a Hollywood action movie and comedy star, playing nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” movies, facing off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator” and teaching golf in “Happy Gilmore,” was 76.
