A new Birmingham-produced THC drink will soon be available across Alabama

Sunbird, a THC seltzer produced in Birmingham, will be available in the greater metro area July 15, with a statewide push to come.

The company’s distribution deal with Alabev comes as the brand has unveiled its new can design.

Sunbird is a product line of Sunbev, formed earlier this year and specializing in hemp-derived zero sugar, zero carb, zero calorie THC beverages. It has a low dosage of CBG, a non-psychotropic cannabinoid, meaning it won’t have the same effect as marijuana.

Sunbev is the brainchild of Birmingham craft beer veterans Harris Stewart, Hunter Lake and Brad Reed. Stewart founded TrimTab Brewing Co., while Lake was one of the founding members of Avondale Brewing Co. Reed was the award-winning marketing director for TrimTab. The company launched in April.

Previously named Altitude Beverage, the founders chose to rebrand the corporate name to give priority and commitment to the Sunbird product line.

Stewart, the CEO, said the company is excited to partner with Alabev.

“We are so grateful to the limited number of accounts that have gotten Sunbird off the ground,” he said.

“Now we are able to enter a whole different level of scale, expanding Sunbird to a much wider base of accounts and customers and to try and achieve our mission of a more healthy, creative, and inspired world. To say this is a major milestone for us would be a massive understatement.”

The company plans to develop a number of different beverage product lines, including medical marijuana, nootropic products, and a variety of other non-alcoholic beverages.

Sunbird’s revamped can design has a new logo and design, with a green color reflecting the hemp base of the beverages. It’s a look that mixes a modern feel with some vintage elements, “somewhere between the country club and old Las Vegas.”

“The new can design is a testament to our dedication to quality and brand excellence. We believe the refreshed look will resonate with a larger variety of people, providing a more unique and creative brand mark that stands out in the market,” COO Hunter Lake said.
