A new Aldi is coming to the Birmingham metro area and handing out gift cards
A new Aldi is coming to Bessemer.
The discount grocery chain is set to open a store in the former Winn Dixie location at 2910 Morgan Road. The store will open on Thursday, January 23 at 8:30 a.m.
To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a gift bag filled with a sampling of Aldi-exclusive products, as well as a gift card. Shoppers will also have the chance to enter a sweepstakes for a $500 ALDI gift card. The sweepstakes will run through opening weekend, according to a press release.
“As shoppers look for ways to stretch their dollars further, our new Aldi store will deliver the Bessemer community affordable, quality groceries, a quick, easy shopping experience, shelves stocked with only the best products and on-trend ALDI Finds,” said Karla Waddleton, Mount Juliet divisional vice president, in the same release. “The new store brings us one step closer to our goal to add 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028 in response to customer demand for ALDI stores in their communities.”
The Aldi at Morgan Road will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m
The new Aldi in Bessemer is one of a half-dozen stores around Alabama the discount grocery giant has converted from former Winn Dixie locations.
Last year, Aldi acquired Winn-Dixie and Harveys from Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Grocers. The deal included grocery store locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

So far, the Aldi in Bessemer is the second converted Winn Dixie location to open this month. An Aldi store opened at 1617 South College Street in Auburn on Jan. 9. Two additional stores are set to open in Alabama. One in Pinson (4701 Pinson Boulevard) and one in Semmes (9082 Moffett Road).
