A little cooler weather in store for Alabama
Spring-like temperatures are in the forecast for Alabama over the next few weeks, but they may be a tad cooler than normal.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a good chance of below-average temperatures for Alabama over the next two weeks.
That doesn’t mean you have to pull the winter coats out, but temperatures could be a few degrees cooler, according to forecasters.
So what’s average for this time of year? According to data from the National Weather Service, average temperature ranges for for this point in April look something like this:
* North Alabama — mid-70s for highs, upper 40s to low 50s for lows.
* Central Alabama — mid- to upper 70s for highs, low 50s for lows.
* South Alabama — upper 70s to low 80s for highs, mid-50s for lows.
The Climate Prediction Center’s six- to 10-day temperature outlook shows a 60 to 70 percent chance that the northern part of the state will have below-average temperatures. Much of the southern half of Alabama will have a 50 to 60 percent chance, and areas closer to the coast could have a 40-50 percent probability.
The CPC’s eight- to 14-day outlook is similar, with a 60 to 70 percent chance for below-average temperatures for northern Alabama and a 50 to 60 percent chance for the rest of the state:
The CPC’s outlooks don’t guarantee lower temperatures but only suggest upcoming temperature trends.
