A few strong storms possible on Monday in Alabama
There’s a chance part of Alabama will see a severe storm or two on Monday.
But there is also a chance that won’t happen.
Regardless, the National Weather Service wants Alabamians to be prepared just in case, because if storms end up developing tomorrow afternoon they could pack a punch.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5, or marginal, severe weather risk for parts of central and south Alabama on Monday.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
The rest of Alabama is also expected to have to deal with rain and storms, but the storms are forecast to stay under severe limits.
The strongest storms could have winds strong enough to bring down trees and power lines, and a tornado will also be possible, but not as likely.
The most likely time for severe storms — if they form — will be on Monday afternoon. However, rain and storms will be possible earlier in the day as well. The morning round of storms isn’t expected to be severe.
The evolution of storms on Monday afternoon will be highly dependent on how the morning plays out, according to the weather service.
So there’s a chance there are no severe storms Monday afternoon. But there’s also a chance for storms to form and quickly intensify. It will all just depend on conditions by the afternoon.
This won’t be the only chance for rain for Alabama this week, although there are no other risks for severe weather (so far) through Friday.
A frontal boundary could get hung up over Alabama later this week, leading to increased raise chances through Friday, according to forecasters.
