A few severe storms possible on Saturday in Alabama

A few severe storms will be possible again on Saturday in Alabama.

The National Weather Service said damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain will be possible. The tornado risk remains very low.

Stronger storms will be possible starting around 10 a.m. in parts of west Alabama, and they will be possible through around 5 p.m. in the rest of the state, according to the weather service.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for all of Alabama except the northwest corner on Saturday.

A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

Today’s severe weather risk is expected to be lower than Friday’s, when numerous severe storms tracked across north and central Alabama and there were numerous reports of downed trees as well as hail.

Here’s a look at preliminary storm reports from Friday:

South Alabama had storms during the overnight hours, but most of those stayed below severe limits.

Forecasters will be watching the skies today to see if clouds can break up enough to allow a little sunlight in that could heat things up enough to generate strong storms.

Those clouds were thick across the state as of early Saturday morning, but clearing was noted to the west over parts of Mississippi.
