A cold front is coming, and it’ll bring real fall weather

A cold front on its way through Alabama will bring a bonafide feel of fall along with it, and not fake fall, either.

This is the real thing.

Unfortunately, what it won’t bring is a lot of rain.

Here are forecast rain amounts for the next seven days from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center, and it’s not showing any for the state in the next week:

The front is expected to cross through the state today. North Alabama and central will get the benefit of the cooler air first.

High temperatures today are only expected to make it into the 60s in parts of north Alabama, according to weather service forecasts. Central Alabama is expected to reach the low to mid-70s (today’s forecast highs are at the top of this post).

The rest of the state is expected to be warmer, with highs in south Alabama expected to be in the 80s again, maybe even upper 80s.

But that cooler air will make its presence felt, even in south Alabama, by tonight.

Low temperatures tonight into Tuesday morning are forecast to bottom out in the mid-40s for north and north-central Alabama. South Alabama will see its temperatures fall into the 50s, with only Mobile and coastal areas expected to stay closer to 60.

High temperatures on Tuesday will be a big contrast from the weekend. Highs will only reach the 60s in north and much of north-central Alabama, with 70s expected for most of south-central and south Alabama. The warm spot could be around Mobile, which is forecast to hit 83 on Tuesday:

Then it gets really chilly Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The weather service is forecasting lows in north Alabama to fall into the mid-to upper 30s, and the northern part of central Alabama could see some 30s as well.

Lows in central and even south Alabama could fall into the 40s by Wednesday morning, with coastal Alabama landing in the 50s.

Wednesday could be the coolest day. Highs on Wednesday will make it only into the 60s statewide except for coastal areas, which will probably crack 70:

Wednesday night into Thursday morning could be the coldest of the week. More lows in the 30s — some lower 30s — will be possible in north Alabama. Central Alabama will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. Some spots in south Alabama could even dip into the upper 30s, with 40s expected across the rest of the region.

Temperatures will continue to warm up some on Friday and through the weekend. However, they will still be cooler, with 70s and low 80s expected.

Will this cooler trend hold? Maybe not. The Climate Prediction Center’s eight- to 14-day temperature outlook is forecasting a high probability of above-average (for late October) temperatures in Alabama:
