A break from the heat is on the way – but not yet
More above-average heat is expected across Alabama on Saturday, and the entire state was under yet another round of heat advisories.
Temperatures this afternoon are again expected to climb into the mid- to upper 90s today, according to the National Weather Service.
The heat combined with the humidity will make it feel even hotter, and the heat index could climb as high as 111 degrees in some parts of the state.
All of Alabama’s 67 counties are under heat advisories today, and some will continue into Sunday. Areas along the immediate coast have been upgraded to excessive heat warnings and could feel even hotter still.
The city of Mobile will have another shot at breaking a record, as it has for the past few days. Mobile’s high temperature on Friday was 101 degrees, which broke the record of 100 degrees set in 1938. Mobile also set records on Thursday (100 degrees), Wednesday (103 degrees), Monday (99 degrees) and Sunday (99 degrees), according to data from the weather service in Mobile.
But a break — or a return to more average August heat — is on the horizon.
A front is expected to make its way into the state starting on Sunday before stalling out somewhere over north or central Alabama. Areas north of the boundary will get to experience temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s for a change and slightly drier air.
Areas south of that front, however, will remain lock into the 90s for a few more days.
Those slightly cooler temperatures will nudge their way southward next week.
Here’s a look at how the weather service expects temperatures to trend over the next few days:
