A $640 Trump watch a man bought his wife is missing one big thing: ‘Someone’s dropped the ball’
Tim Petit bought his wife a $640 limited edition Trump watch — one of only 250 to be manufactured.
It turned out to be a one-of-a-kind timepiece.
For all the wrong reasons.
“I liked it because it’s similar to a Rolex band,” Melanie Petit of Middletown, Rhode Island told local television station WJAR.
But the Inauguration First Lady pink watch arrived with an obvious mistake.
“I noticed it right away. The ‘T’ is missing. It just says ‘RUMP.’ It should say ‘TRUMP.’ It says ‘RUMP,’” Petit said.
Tim Petit, who bought the timepiece after watching the president hawk the watches on a commercial, said he and his wife, both fervent Trump supporters, were devastated.
“I’m very disappointed and I wanted it to be a very special thing for her and we had expected that it would have the integrity of the president of the United States …” he said.
Gettrumpwatches.com, the website that offers the watches for sale, says in fine print that it licenses the Trump name and likeness but is not connected to any political campaigns.
The disclaimer adds that the watch is not manufactured, distributed or sold by Trump or the Trump Organization.
“I think someone needs to be aware of it in their licensing department that someone’s dropped the ball big time,” Tim Petit said of those who handle Trump’s marketing opportunities.
“An apology would be nice for making my wife cry,” he added.
While the Petits said Gettrumpwatches.com had been unresponsive to their complaint, the company eventually called them back.
The company said it would immediately replace the watch, apologized and gave the couple an $800 coupon to buy something else, too.
