âThe Bacheloretteâ through the eyes of a sports editor: Ken just wants to have fun
We’ve reached the third week of my Bachelorette journey and I’ve not begged and pleaded my bosses to get me off this roller coaster ride, yet. While this season, featuring Auburn graduate Charity Lawson is early, but at the same time it has been…different from the eyes of a sports editor who has only watched now — three episodes.
This show hasn’t broken me…yet.
Thankfully, action picks up early with Charity recapping the uneasy ending to episode 2, where it was clear that the knives were starting to come out and the beef between the guys — most notably Brayden and Aaron B. — were on the verge of getting ugly.
Speaking of Brayden, within 10 minutes of the start of the episode, he and Charity headed out on a solo date to Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres where they shared a game of catch and some laughs…and of course, a kiss. However, Charity was very determined to figure out who is here for her — and who is here for themselves.
Not even 30 minutes into the show, and I already know Brayden is going to end up staying, so we can move past this charade with a quickness.
Warrick gets the second solo-date of the show, and most-ok, all of the guys are a bit surprised and peeved. Look guys, half of us forgot Warrick was still there so, cut him some slack.
As the one-on-one date with Brayden and Charity wraps up, it is clear that Brayden gets jealous of other guys on dates with Charity. Brother, this is ‘The Bachelorette’, this is what you signed up for!
For the first group date, Charity pairs up with former Bachelorette winner and SEC analyst Jordan Rodgers along with his lucky lady, JoJo Fletcher for a “Barbie-themed” talent show. The guys dress up as a Ken doll and sing original songs.
This show hasn’t broken me yet, something I have to keep reminding myself.
However, one of the funnies moments of the night was John, dressed as ‘Birthday Suit’ Ken was preforming, and Tanner was making some sly comments about the outfit. Oh, and Tanner was dressed as ‘Ice Skater’ Ken. You know, like a normal, well-adjusted person on a dating/reality show. Sean, dressed as ‘Double Denim’ Ken won the date, in somewhat of a shocker.
Despite Sean winning, the winner in all of this was the viewers who got to see a group of dejected Kens walk up stadium steps. Despite this show being ‘a bit’ of a melodrama at times, the comedic timing really is what keeps me coming back. Sean grabbed an extra moment with Charity on the group date, much to the anger of everybody else.
Look, I’m no expert but what Sean did was fine. The other guys are clearly acting like petulant children, it is amazing to see how childish they become. Ugh, men, am I right?
There was a sweet moment where Dotun had a chance to talked with Charity, and they got to spend one-on-one time together. It didn’t feel fabricated or scripted, it truly felt authentic. One of the few times that this first-time viewer actually enjoyed a moment like that on the show.
As for one-on-one date with Warrick, it was perhaps the worst date I’ve ever seen. Does anybody else get second-hand embarrassment from seeing a bad date? Because yes, I am here. This is an absolute terrible date. My goodness. And thankfully, Charity ended his time on the show. Because holy cow was that a tough date to watch.
The final night of one-on-ones for this episode was a wonderful refresher after — whatever Warrick did. However, the knives came out once again. Brayden’s intentions were once again brought up by Aaron B. and now things are about to get ugly, or at least on the verge of getting ugly. Aaron and Brayden should just settle this like real men, play rock-paper-scissors.
Charity has been super sweet this entire time, but now it has become clear that she is very upset, setting the stage for some potential fireworks in the final portion of the show. The guys are debating if Brayden will stay, either way the dynamics of the group have changed. The knives are permanently out for the rest of the season, mostly due to Brayden and Aaron’s battle. As one of the guys said in the house, they “fu*ked it up” for the rest of the guys, meaning someone who probably didn’t deserve to go home will.
Who would’ve thought, the bachelorette and sports are kind of the same thing! Three guys saw the door, but it is game-on in the bachelorette house. Brayden vs. Aaron B, and both of them vs. everybody else in the house.
All is fair in love and bachelorette.
