“Love in Fairhope” hits Hulu on Wednesday, using the Eastern Shore as a backdrop while five women search for true love. Here’s a quick introduction to the ladies and their romantic challenges before you begin your binge.

Bear in mind that there’s an element of fantasy to this. One of the cast members, LaShoundra Young, has described her piece of the show on social media as “the perfect blend of my real life, and real emotions, with a little bit of HOLLYWOOD MAGIC mixed in.” Another, Olivia Ogletree, posted: “If you were given the chance to bring your fantasy love story to life, how would it look?”

And Barry Poznick, the president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Unscripted Television, has referred to the series as “a reality soap” à la “the Hills,” set in the South. So, all in all, you might want to take the “reality” part of this with a grain of salt.

Abby Mannich, 33, has crash-landed back in Fairhope after a few years in New York City that ended with a breakup. “Right as Abby’s about to get back on her feet, she gets sucked back into a spin cycle with ex-boyfriend and town-bad-boy Trevor.” But as it turns out, Trevor’s not the only option.

Claiborne Walsh

Claiborne Walsh, 76, is “a beloved artist and poet in town who prides herself on romantic wisdom.” At least until she finds herself venturing back into the world of dating following the death of her husband of 55 years.

LaShoundra Young

LaShoundra Young “is the town pastor’s wife at a serious crossroad in life. After learning that her husband Kendell made a few risky business decisions that put their family at risk, she’s forced to decide whether she wants to stay in a marriage with a man she can no longer trust.” Venturing out on her own at mid-life presents uncertainties of its own.

Mya Jo Williams

Mya Jo Williams is back in town at 21 after college, interested in longtime friend Nick. But Nick has a new girlfriend, and Mya Jo’s high school boyfriend Kirk also catches her eye.

Olivia Ogletree

Olivia Ogletree “is the daughter of town socialite and real estate mogul Paige Dawson.” “Focused on growing the family business and the family she built, Olivia wasn’t looking for a relationship until a chance encounter with a childhood crush changed her mind. Having just come out a few years back, Olivia and Tori are newly dating and navigating a gay relationship in the Bible Belt of America.”

All nine half-hour episodes of “Love in Fairhope” will be released on Hulu on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
