‘Butterbean,’ former boxer, reveals he’s down more than 200 pounds; Here’s how he did it

“Butterbean,” the former boxer whose real name is Eric Esch, took to social media recently to reveal he had lost 200 pounds.

Esch, who weighed more 500 pounds at one point, credits DDP Yoga – the program designed by pro wrestling superstar Diamond Dallas Page.

“Look, I’ve never done a public weigh-in, first time,” Esch, who grew up in Jasper, said. “I was 515 about a year-and-a-half ago, two years ago, so let’s see what I weigh now,” he said. “I’ve been working out with DDP-Y. Mr. Diamond Dallas Page has helped me and my buddy Joshua. So, let’s see what I weigh.”

The scale said Esch weighed 303.8 pounds.

His rection?

“Not too bad.”

Esch, in his early days, ate chicken and butterbeans to stay around the 400-pound mark to compete as a Toughman, earning him the nickname “Butterbean.”

He was a five-time World Toughman Heavyweight Champion.

Esch, 57, earned the title of International Boxing Association World Super Heavyweight Champion and World Athletic Association World Heavyweight Champion. He was 77-10-4 as a boxer with 58 knockouts.

He was born in Atlanta, but, at age 4, he and his family moved to St. Johns, Mich., only to move again at 11 years old to Jasper, Alabama, with his family.
