âAuburn is homeâ: Watch young fanâs hilarious recruiting pitch to 5-star Alabama commit
A 13-year-old Auburn fan, who goes by the name of Connor, made his first appearance on Auburn linebacker Eugene Asante’s Instagram Live on Dec. 8.
In last week’s live video chat, which was available to be seen by all of Asante’s Instagram followers, Connor and Asante talked Auburn’s 2023 football season, this year’s Iron Bowl loss and Connor gave his opinion that Hugh Freeze and the Tigers’ need a quarterback out of the transfer portal.
It was an entertaining, light-hearted and wholesome interaction between Asante and a young fan.
And because Auburn fans ate it up so much, Asante invited Connor to return for the second “episode” of the show on Wednesday night. Except this time around, Asante invited other special guests to join he and Connor.
Auburn defensive backs Jaylin Simpson and Keionte Scott both joined the video chat.
So did 5-star wide receiver and Alabama commit Ryan Williams, who reclassified from the 2025 recruiting class to the 2024 recruiting class earlier in the week.
Though Williams has been committed to the Crimson Tide since Oct. 8, 2022, Freeze and the Tigers have been relentless in their efforts to flip Williams’ commitment from Alabama to Auburn. And as evident by Wednesday night’s interaction on Instagram Live, it appears Connor would love to see Williams on The Plains, too.
With Asante, Scott and Williams all in the video, Connor took a crack at pitching Auburn to Saraland’s 5-star standout.
“No. 1 is tradition. We have better traditions than just singing that ‘Dixieland Delight’ song,” said Connor, poking fun at Alabama’s end-of-third-quarter tradition. “We have better traditions like Toomer’s Corner and Aurea the Eagle. Like, what’s Alabama have other than a stuffed toy?”
While Connor’s rant on the difference in traditions earned nods of approval from Asante and Scott, he continued on to his next argument.
“The coaches and the fans will love you,” Connor told Williams. “If you go to Alabama, they’ll just be like, ‘Who is this guy?’ Come to Auburn, you’ll truly be a star… Here? You’ll be in our hearts forever.”
“I appreciate that,” Williams replied to Connor with a nod.
But Connor wasn’t done.
“You know you want to come to Auburn,” Connor added. “Auburn is home. We treat you like family.”
Connor’s pitch to Williams on Wednesday night was surely a passionate one.
However, as of Monday, when Williams held a press conference to announce his reclassification, the 5-star wide receiver said he was still locked in on his commitment to Alabama.
That said, Williams doesn’t plan on signing his national letter of intent during the early signing period and will instead wait until national signing day in February, giving teams like the Tigers more time to pursue the 5-star target.
