âItâs like he just vanishedâ: Family pleads for answers after Birmingham man disappeared weeks ago
The family of a Birmingham man missing since late September is pleading that anyone with information come forward.
Donald Cash, 52, was last seen Sept. 26. His truck was found one week later in Pratt City, and police said they believe he is in extreme danger.
“It’s just like he just vanished from the face of the earth,’’ said his sister, Tatum Cash. “We’re just trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. We’re trying to do whatever we need to do to locate him.”
Donald Cash was last seen that Tuesday working on his truck at his home in the 800 block of Knoxville Street in the Wylam area. He is the owner of Cash and Son Transport.
“That was the last time somebody saw him, and the last time family members talked to him was that day,’’ Tatum Cash said.
His phone is going straight to voicemail.
The case was immediately assigned to a detective with the Birmingham Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, and investigators said they’re concerned about his well-being.
“With some facts that we’ve learned that we can’t make available to the public, we believe he is in extreme danger,’’ said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Tatum Cash said her brother has two sons, a daughter, and grandchildren. One of his sons was killed two years ago.
“It’s been very difficult. He lost his son two years ago to violence,’’ said Tatum Cash, who is in remission from brain cancer. “Our parents are passed so it’s just he and I. Our family has been really going through it.”
It’s very unlike Donald Cash to disappear and have not contact with family.
“That’s not like my brother. He works hard and he works a lot, just trying to make ends meet,’’ his sister said. “He doesn’t miss a day working. He owns his own business. If you don’t work, you don’t make money.”
Tatum Cash described her brother as upbeat. “He’s a hard worker who took care of his family,’’ she said.
Donald Cash is Black male, 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighing 275 pounds.
He was last known to be wearing black pants, a black shirt, a black hat, and brown boots.
His sister is begging anyone with information to come forward.
“Let them know what you’ve seen, what you known, what you’ve heard,’’ she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 205-328-9311 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
