‘Game-changing’ development proposed for Huntsville’s Old Big Cove Road

A development city of Huntsville officials are calling a potential “game-changer” is being proposed in the southeastern part of the city off Old Big Cove Road.

A meeting was held late last month to get input from residents about a residential and retail development that is currently being called Village at Drake Farm at the intersection of Cecil Ashburn Drive and Old Big Cove Road.

District 2 City Councilman David Little said the development would be similar to the Village of Providence and would fit into the master plan for that part of Huntsville.

“Tom Drake, who owns this particular property, has had people wanting to buy it for years,” Little said. “He has been very diligent about who he sells to and wants whatever becomes of this property to be something the whole area can be proud of and can use.”

The councilman said the development is very much in the early stages. The more than 80-acre site is still in an unincorporated area and must be annexed into Huntsville.
