Alabama football steady in coaches poll top 25 rankings after South Carolina win
Alabama football’s Saturday win over South Carolina in Tuscaloosa didn’t inspire much confidence in the Crimson Tide heading into a difficult stretch of the SEC schedule. However, it didn’t hurt UA’s ranking in the coaches top 25 poll.
The Tide was ranked No. 7 in the poll when it was updated Sunday. UA did not move from the ranking it moved down to last week, after a loss to Vanderbilt.
Texas remained the No. 1 team in the poll after beating Oklahoma. Oregon got a boost to No. 2 after beating Ohio State, and Penn State jumped to third following its win over Southern Cal.
Georgia beat Mississippi State and is the highest-ranked team with a loss at No. 4, despite that defeat coming at the hands of Alabama. Ohio State dropped to fifth after losing to the Ducks, with Miami sitting as the only other team ahead of the Tide, at No. 6.
LSU jumped to No. 8 after beating Ole Miss Saturday night. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels dropped precipitously, down to No. 15.
Clemson and Tennessee round out the top 10. Texas A&M (No. 14) and Missouri (No. 16) also represent the SEC in the top 25.
The Associated Press media poll will be updated later on Sunday.
