Long run costs Jacksonville Jaguars’ Tank Bigsby $6,531
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby posted the first 100-yard rushing game of his NFL career in a 37-34 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Bigsby’s big day included the longest run in the NFL – a 65-yard touchdown with 5:21 left to play, during which the former Auburn standout reached a speed of 20.93 mph, the ninth-fastest for an NFL ball-carrier during Week 5 play.
And the run cost Bigsby $6,531.
The NFL announced its fines for Week 5 transgressions on Saturday afternoon, with Bigsby’s fine accessed for unsportsmanlike conduct – specifically taunting, according to the NFL – on his 65-yard touchdown run.
Bigsby was not penalized on the field during the play, although as he neared the goal line, Bigsby pointed back at the pursuing Indianapolis players.
Two other players with Alabama football roots were among the 28 fined by the NFL for Week 5:
· Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker K.J. Britt (Oxford, Auburn) was fined $6,231 for unnecessary roughness (hit on a defenseless player) in a 36-30 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 3. Britt received a 15-yard penalty on the field.
· Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens (Hoover) was fined $10,230 for unnecessary roughness (facemask) in a 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The infraction occurred on the final play of the game as the Steelers were engaging in desperation laterals. Pickens was not penalized on the field.
The NFL uses a collectively bargained schedule of fines to determine the amount of monetary punishment. The NFL’s Schedule of Fines also comes with a list of aggravating and mitigating factors that can affect the size of a fine.
