‘This is so sad’: UAB hall of famer sounds off on former program

UAB legebd Roddy White took to social media on Saturday to voice his frustration about his alma mater.

White’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, came during the Blazers’ game against Army that saw UAB in a 34-3 deficit at halftime.

“It’s sad watching my blazers play they literally don’t look interested in playing football,” he wrote. “This is so sad.”

A loss to Army would hand UAB its worst start to the season since 2012 (1-5) when the Blazers went 3-9.

White, regarded as the best player to suit up at UAB, played with the program from 2001-04 and was inducted into the UAB Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

During his final season with the Blazers, he set numerous school single-season receiving records with 71 receptions (third) for 1,452 yards (second) and 14 touchdowns (first).

For White’s career with UAB, White ranks second in receiving yards (3,112) and receiving touchdowns (26), third in career receptions (163) and fourth in career yards per reception (19.09).

After his record-setting career with the Blazers, White was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 27th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, where he played all 11 seasons of his professional career; he is a four-time Pro Bowler and was inducted into the Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor in 2019.
