North Alabama man charged with chemical endangerment of infant son that died

Madison County authorities have charged a Hazel Green man with chemical endangerment of a child after the death of an infant.

Sonney Lamer Summers Jr., 39, investigators say, was using methamphetamine at the time of the death of his three-month-old son, WAAY is reporting.

The arrest stems from an incident March 10, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies went to a residence on Butter & Egg Road in Hazel Green on a report of an infant not breathing.

The child died a short time later.

Last month, investigators received the baby’s toxicology report, which showed a lethal amount of meth, according to the sheriff’s office.

Summers Jr. was arrested Wednesday and was later released from the Madison County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
