AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 4
Here are AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 4 of the 2024 season:
Offense
Graham Mertz, QB, Florida — Mertz was near-perfect as a passer in a 45-28 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. The senior from Overland Park, Kan., completed 19 of 21 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns with an interception and also ran for a 1-yard touchdown as the Gators recorded their first SEC win of the season.
Defense
TJ Metcalf, DB, Arkansas — Metcalf had a hand in four turnovers in a 24-14 victory at Auburn. The sophomore from Birmingham had two interceptions, forced a fumble and broke up two passes — one of which a teammate intercepted — in addition to five tackles as the Razorbacks recorded a key road victory.
Special teams
Kai Kroger, P, South Carolina — Kroeger was once again a field-flipper in a 50-7 victory over Akron. The senior from Lake Forest, Ill., averaged 53.3 yards on four attempts — including a career-best 75-yarder — and also ran for a two-point conversion from his holder position as the Gamecocks improved to 3-1 this season.
