A future Alabama basketball player was named to a McDonald’s All-American team for the fourth consecutive year.

Essence Cody, from Valdosta (Ga.) High, joined the likes of Nimari Burnett, JD Davison, Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley. With this week’s announcement. Cody became the first All-American for Crimson Tide women’s head coach Kristy Curry in her decade-long tenure.

Cody, a 6-foot-4 forward, has helped lead Valdosta to a 14-8 start this season, with five-straight wins in the largest classification in the state. She’s averaged a team-leading 17.6 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting 46% overall.

“Her humble heart and work ethic, paired with a rare combination of size and perimeter skill, make her one of the most versatile forwards in this class. Her ability to handle the basketball, shoot the three and score inside will pay huge dividends in our up-tempo style of play,” Curry said upon signing Cody last November.

Along with North Carolina guard Reychel Douglas and Jackson High’s Naomi Jones, Cody is part of Alabama’s 12th-ranked recruiting class, per ESPNW. Cody is the No. 22 senior in the nation and is one of four forwards set to play in the nationally-televised game on March 28 in Houston.

The Tide has been competitive in the Southeastern Conference in Curry’s 10th year at the helm. Alabama (15-5) received a vote in the most recent Associated Press Poll and ESPN’s Charlie Creme forecasted the Tide as an NCAA tournament nine-seed.
