Autopsy indicates Decatur couple died in apparent murder-suicide

An investigation into the deaths of a Decatur couple point toward the incident being a murder-suicide, according to police.

The preliminary results of an autopsy conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences indicate that Jonathan Wayne Dawes, 44, shot his wife, Stephanie Miller Tribble, 60, before turning the weapon on himself.

According to the Decatur Police Department, officers conducted a wellness check at the couple’s home in the 1800-block of 5th Avenue Southwest on Sept. 6.

Officers found Dawes and Tribble dead inside the house with apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation into their deaths is still ongoing.
