A morning shooting in northern Birmingham left a woman injured and a man in custody.

North Precinct officers were dispatched just before 8 a.m. Thursday to a report of a woman shot in the 3000 block of 31st Street North, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported the woman to the hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Fitzgerald said officers located the suspect near where the shooting happened.

The suspect ran from them, but he was taken into custody and a brief foot chase. Police had to use a Taser to subdue him.
