There are more than 5,000 license plates that the Alabama Department of Revenue has deemed inappropriate for the roadways.

And some of them are really headscratchers.

In general, license plates land on the banned list because they refer to sex, drugs, violence, race, body parts or other subjects. Some of the tags try to circumvent the system by adding numbers or extra letters while others are, shall we say, more straightforward.

Some of these license plates were requested by motorists, others were preemptively added based on the words or letters they contain.
