Jury recommends life in prison for man convicted of ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ killings

A Morgan County jury Wednesday recommended life in prison without parole for one of the men accused of the 2020 “Seven Deadly Sins” killings.

Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for Frederic Rogers, who was convicted on three counts of capital murder in August.

The jury returned the verdict Wednesday morning after about two-and-a-half hours of deliberations over two days, according to WAFF.

Rogers was convicted of capital murder involving the killing of two or more people, murder during a second degree burglary and capital murder during arson.

The jury found Rogers not guilty of a robbery charge.

Rogers, 26, of Woodville, was arrested in 2020, charged with capital murder in the June 4, 2020 killings in a house on Talucah Road in Valhermoso Springs in eastern Morgan County.

According to testimony, Rogers, 26, and John Michael Legg, 23, shot and killed four men and three women: Jeramy Roberts, 31, of Athens; James Wayne Benford, 22, of Decatur; William Zane Hodgin, 18, of Somerville; Roger Lee Jones Jr., 20, of Decatur; Tammy England Muzzey, 45; Emily Brooke Payne, 21; and Dakota Green, 17, of Valhermoso Springs.

Authorities said Rogers and Legg started the Seven Deadly Sins motorcycle club, and two of their victims were members.

About 60 spent bullet casings were collected in the house, and all of the victims died of “multiple gunshot wounds.” A small dog was also fatally shot.

Legg has not yet been tried.
