‘GameDay’ honors Nick Saban for naming of field with video messages of former Alabama stars
ESPN’s “College GameDay” dedicated a part of its Saturday broadcast from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to pay tribute to Nick Saban.
The former Alabama coach will have the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium named after him today during the Tide’s game against South Florida.
During the broadcast, a video montage of former players appeared with messages of congratulations for the 72-year-old former coach.
“It’s a great honor, but, really, I hope this is reflective of the legacy of all the players that played, all the coaches that coached, the fans, the supporters we had to make a very unique and successful program for a long time,” Saban said.
Even Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, a former Alabama offensive coordinator under Saban, made mention of the honor during the broadcast.
“Hey, coach, congratulations, man,” he said during his interview. “Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium that’s pretty freakin’ awesome, man.”
Here are the messages:
Derrick Henry (Alabama RB 2013-15)
“Coach Saban, I wanted to say congratulations on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium. You deserve it. You’re the GOAT. I appreciate everything you did for me while I attended the University of Alabama. You not only made me a better player, but you made me a better person as well. I want to say God bless you and wish you the best on your next endeavors.”
Mark Ingram (Alabama RB 2008-10)

Don’t’a Hightower (Alabama LB 2008-11)
“Coach, congratulations on a successful career. Really appreciate everything you have done not just for me, but all the young men you have instilled hard work, trust and dedication into. Can’t wait to see you, man. And excited to bring the family to Nick Saban football field. Roll Tide.
Barrett Jones (Alabama OL 2009-12)
“I just wanted to say congratulations on the big day. It’s well deserved. You had a huge impact on my life. I think you get a lot of credit for on how good of a football coach you were but maybe not enough credit (for the man off the field.)
